In the Sherrod controversy, do shoot the messenger
If a house is burned to the ground, you can whine about the firefighters or criticize the building material -- but first you blame the guy who started the fire, right? Last week, a government worker named Shirley Sherrod was axed after a video clip of her NAACP Air Jordan 20 speech was used to paint her as racist. In the blink of an eye, her reputation was burned down. But once the whole speech was revealed -- proving the clip was way out of context -- her bosses were booed, the NAACP was blasted, even the president was chided. And the guy who started the fire? As of today, he still has matches. Andrew Breitbart is the conservative blogger who posted the edited video of Sherrod. He put it on one of his five Web sites. Breitbart, a former Matt Drudge groupie, onetime E! Entertainment employee, and a guy who called Sen. Edward Kennedy, hours after his death, "a special pile of human excrement," hoisted that clip as evidence of reverse racism by the NAACP. He claimed the audience applauded such sentiments. The video showed no such thing. But Breitbart lit the fire. He blew on the flames. As Sherrod would later tell CNN, "He knew Air Jordan 21 exactly what would happen." So Breitbart is where this sad story begins, where the blame lies and where the punishment should be doled out -- if there were any you could dole out. Sadly, how do you punish a blogger like Breitbart? He simply slithers back into the muck that some confuse with journalism. Who does he have to answer to? Nobody. Not the whole truth "I am," Breitbart boasted to the media last week, "public enemy No. 1 or 2 to the Democratic Party ... based upon the successes my journalism has had." There are several things wrong with that statement. First, I doubt he counts that much. Second, his journalism? It's not journalism if you look for Air Jordan 23 only one point of view, post other people's stuff and don't even acknowledge how using chopped-up material to paint a full picture is wrong. "Let me think about that," was what Breitbart said when asked whether he might have vetted the footage more carefully if given another chance. Californians divided on Arizona immigration law
A slight majority of Californians favor Arizona's controversial law that makes illegal immigration a state Air Jordan 10 crime and allows police officers in the Grand Canyon state to question people's immigration status based on "reasonable suspicion," according to a Field Poll released today. However, the results are close and clearly divided along partisan lines. California voters approve of the law by a 49 to 45 percent margin. A 62 percent majority of Democrats disapprove of the law, while 77 percent of Republicans said they favor the law. "It's a very divided public here in California," said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo. Opinions here are much more divided (than national opinions), and I would even say that the splits are wider." The poll also gauged whether respondents who will vote in the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate elections support or oppose the Arizona law. Supporters of Democrats Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer largely oppose the Air Jordan 11 law, and supporters of Republicans Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina favor the law. Gubernatorial undecided voters generally favored the law, and Senate race undecided voters were roughly split. Corey Cook, professor of politics at the University of San Francisco, said that Californians' views on the Arizona law will probably have little effect on the two races. The real issue, Cook said, is how the candidates will deal with the immigration question. Though Californians generally view illegal immigration unfavorably, the poll also found that respondents are less opposed to illegal immigration than those polled in 1982. Cook also said the immigration issue requires a balancing act by Republicans as they try to both address conservative values and gain Latino support. While most racial and ethnic groups that were polled generally favor the Arizona law, 71 percent of Latinos disapprove of the law. Whitman, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, has made several efforts to appeal to Latino voters in recent weeks. She Air Jordan 12 opposes the Arizona law, and recently published an essay in several bilingual newspapers highlighting her similarities with Brown, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, on the immigration issue. The Brown campaign has challenged this claim. Fiorina, a Republican challenging Boxer for the U.S. Senate seat, has come out in support of the law. The candidate recently criticized the Obama administration after the U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the Arizona law. Because the lawsuit challenges Arizona's ability to regulate immigration as a state, Fiorina said the suit was inconsistent, telling KCBS radio and KPIX that the government "ought to be applying that standard consistently" with regard to San Francisco's sanctuary policies. Moreover, most poll respondents have strong opinions about the Arizona law. Of the 62 percent of Democrats opposing the law, 49 percent said they strongly disapprove. Of the Republicans favoring the law, 64 percent said they strongly approve. Some critics of the law, including several California cities, have called for a boycott of Arizona. San Francisco banned city employees from traveling to the state, and a resolution in the Legislature calling for a Air Jordan 13 boycott is supported by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, among others. Walter Stone, chairman of the political science department at UC Davis, said that the issue will be less relevant in the gubernatorial race because both candidates oppose the Arizona law. "It may cause some Republicans to entertain doubts about Whitman, but the choice is still between Whitman and Brown," Stone Air Jordan 14 said. "Party responsibility is a stronger force." The poll was conducted between June 22 and July 5, surveying 1,390 registered voters. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points. S. Africa holds education summit before WCup final
PRETORIA, South Africa — South Africa's president read fellow leaders a lesson before inviting them to join him at Sunday's World Cup final. Just hours before the Dutch-Spanish final, President Jacob Zuma convened leaders from Burkina Faso, Kenya, Togo, Mozambique, the Netherlands and neighboring Zimbabwe at Women NFL Jerseys an education summit in the capital. At the meeting, he urged African leaders to ensure parents don't have to pay school fees or buy uniforms, factors that keep children out of school. He also called on leaders from developed countries to honor pledges to support education in poor countries. "We convened this summit because of our strongly held view that the first soccer World Cup tournament on African soil should have a lasting legacy," Zuma said at the meeting, which was also attended by U.N. and international sporting officials. "The most important investment in the future of any nation is in education," Zuma said. "No legacy could be higher than that." The summit is the NFL Kids Jerseys culmination of 1GOAL, a campaign supported by football's governing body FIFA to use the attention the World Cup commands to publicize the need to get more children into school. An estimated 72 million children aren't in school and millions more do not have access to quality education, according to 1GOAL. 1GOAL has brought in luminaries from sports, entertainment and politics to push the campaign — Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Colombian pop star Shakira, Hillary Clinton and others. "Football can create chances where there is no hope, and this will remain our mission into the future," FIFA President Sepp Blatter said at Sunday's meeting. Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said the financial crisis could not be an excuse. "Destroying Air Jordan 2010 education and health systems by cutting budgets is not the way to achieve sound economic recovery," he said. Ensuring all the world's children have a chance to finish at least primary school is one of eight goals set at a U.N. conference in 2000. The Millennium Development Goals, which include halving poverty and halting the spread of AIDS as well as the education target, were to be met by 2015. With five years to go, the struggle to meet the deadline will the subject of a U.N. conference in September in New York. UNESCO, the U.N. cultural and educational and cultural organization, is urging donors to step up aid for education in Africa. It says aid for basic education in sub-Saharan Africa has dropped from $1.72 billion in 2007 to $1.65 billion in 2008, even as more children enroll in schools. "Education is Africa's most powerful antidote to poverty," UNESCO Director-General Irina Michael Jordan Shoes Bokova said in a statement last week lauding Zuma for holding Sunday's summit. "Leaders must seize this occasion to put their full support behind providing Africa's children with a quality education."

The temblor, centered about 60 miles northeast of San Diego, was first reported by MBT Tembea USGS to be at 5.7 magnitude but the agency later downgraded it to 5.4. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries. The city closest to the quake was Borrego Springs, located in San Diego County. Neighboring Riverside County also reported no major incidents as a result of the quake. "So far in Riverside MBT Casual Men's County, we have had no significant damage reports either from our fire stations or from the citizens in the county," Riverside Fire Capt. Jeremy Snyder told CNN. Apple bans 'fraudulent' developer from iTunes
According to Apple, Thuat Nguyen hacked around 400 iTunes accounts, in order to use their credit card details to boost sales of his comic book apps. Apple said it had MBT Chapa Shoes tightened its security as a result of the hack. It has put fraudulent activity on iTunes into the spotlight. Small percentage At one point Mr Nguyen's apps occupied 42 of the top 50 book apps sold. In a statement Apple said that the developer and his apps have been removed from the iTunes store "for violating the developer Program License Agreement including fraudulent purchase patterns". "The iTunes servers were not compromised. An extremely small percentage of users, 400 of the 150 million iTunes users, were impacted," it said. It recommended that people worried that their credit card had been stolen should contact their financial institution and change their account password. Apple said that its MBT Chapa Women's iTunes servers were not compromised but it has stepped up security. Bogus book It will now ask users to enter their credit card security code more frequently when making purchases on iTunes. It is not the first time that users have complained about their iTunes accounts being hacked but it is one of the first that an app bought using compromised accounts has dominated the charts. Amichai Shulman, chief technology officer of security firm Imperva, believes this was Mr Nguyen's biggest mistake. "It was probably a bogus book and it was just a way to take money from one account and put it in another. If he had kept it out of the top 50 the scam may never have been detected," he said. It is likely the details of iTunes accounts were acquired via a phishing attack or from other compromised accounts such as web mail, said Mr Shulman. "We are seeing a trend for hackers targetting accounts such as iTunes, online poker accounts. You can monetise this MBT sport Shoes kind of account very quickly," he said. Amit Klein, the chief technology officer of Trusteer, a company which provides security for online payments, thinks Apple could do more to prevent such breaches. "Hacks on iTunes are not so rare, there is a constant stream of reports even though they don't make the headlines. Apple could have better fraud detection and interact with iTune users better," he said. MBT Sports Women's MBT Changa Shoes MBT Safiri Shoes MBT Lami Shoes MBT Tataga

Source: Warriors make trade offer for Knicks' Lee
The Knicks still could get something big out of David Lee. A league source said the Knicks have been offered Golden State's point guard Monta Ellis and Air Jordan 2010 Minnesota's Al Jefferson for Lee in separate sign-and-trade scenarios. But the Knicks are handcuffed on all moves until they find out what LeBron James and Dwyane Wade do. Lee, who made the All-Star Team for the first time, is almost guaranteed not to be a Knick next season. But he is amenable to pulling off a sign-and-trade instead of an outright signing because he would get the extra sixth year -- at least $11 million. The Knicks have eyed Ellis for awhile. Other point guards high on their list are Luke Ridnour and Raymond Felton, depending on price, according to a source. The Knicks also are interested in Carlos Arroyo -- for a lower price. Yesterday, the Michael Jordan Shoes Knicks lost out on Joe Johnson as he re-signed with Atlanta for the full max, but agent Arn Tellem still can deliver them Washington sharpshooter Mike Miller. The Knicks met with Johnson and Miller Wednesday night in Santa Monica as both are clients of Tellem, who's longtime friends with team president Donnie Walsh and has an incentive to make the Knicks better. Danilo Gallinari is one of Tellem's clients, and he orchestrated the Tracy McGrady Knicks deal. Ironically, the Cavaliers also are in the hunt for Miller, who is a friend of LeBron James. Miller actually named his son after James' manager, Maverick Carter. The Knicks and Cavaliers feel James is best when surrounded by multiple shooters to take the load off of him late in games. The Cavaliers only can give Miller the $5.9 million mid-level exception or do a sign-and-trade with the Wizards. The Clippers also are pursuing Miller. Tellem announced on his Huffington Post column Johnson was signing with the Hawks officially, taking the maximum $119 million salary -- $30 million more than the Knicks could offer because of an extra sixth-year. Tellem wrote that Johnson would try to recruit free agents to make Atlanta stronger, even suggesting LeBron James. Johnson passed on the chance to team up with Amare' Stoudemire in New York, though Stoudemire has not agreed to terms yet. "New York has NFL Jerseys Mike D'Antoni, the coach who nurtured Joe in Phoenix," Tellem wrote in his column. "Joe loved playing for D'Antoni and was excited by the possibility of joining him in New York. It seemed like a perfect match: a tenacious player who never naps oncourt in the city that never sleeps. "When the free-agency period kicked in, Joe made a point of talking to the Hawks first. Their owners and NFL Jersey Sale new coach, Larry Drew, impressed Joe with their commitment to making the team championship-caliber. In turn, Joe felt equally committed to the Hawks, his teammates and the city of Atlanta." NFL Jerseys Cheap Women NFL Jerseys NFL Kids Jerseys Nike Air Jordan Cheap Jordan Shoes

Caribbean Thrill Quickly Fading for Mets
SAN JUAN, P.R. — Playing baseball on this picturesque island has provided some spice to the tedium and drudgery of a long season, but with a pair of losses, all the fun and novelty of the San Juan series is starting to wear off for the Mets. And to make MBT Shoes things worse, their most recent loss came in a manner that has become all too common. Whether in Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Atlanta or Florida, defeats in the opponent’s final at-bat are difficult to take, and the Mets’ 7-6 loss to the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night was their eighth such setback of the season. Dan Uggla’s two-out single in the ninth inning brought in Jorge Cantu from second base in the second game of the series at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, which continued to thump and sway to the rhythmic beat of Caribbean baseball. The series was transferred here from Florida during the winter, so the Marlins were designated the home team. That gave them the last at-bat, which has at times proved so traumatic to the Mets. “It seems to me they are a little bit different away from Citi Field,” Marlins starter Nate Robertson said of the Vibram Five Fingers Mets, who fell to 15-22 on the road, “but they are still very good team.” Trailing by 6-3, the Mets scored once in the seventh and twice in the ninth to tie the score. They then sent the left-hander Pedro Feliciano, who grew up in Puerto Rico, to the mound. Feliciano struck out the first two batters he faced in the ninth, but Cantu stroked a double to right-center. First base was empty for the right-handed-hitting Uggla, but the Mets pitched to him. Manager Jerry Manuel said he and the pitching coach Dan Warthen debated walking Uggla, but with the dangerous Cody Ross on deck, they chose to pitch carefully to Uggla, who had already homered off the left-handed starter Hisanori Takahashi but had struck out three times. “We thought he might be a little anxious and pop up or swing through it,” Manuel said. Instead, Uggla singled up the middle, and when Cantu scored on a headfirst slide, the Marlins poured out of the dugout to celebrate with him. For Feliciano, it was an unhappy moment to have lost the game, but it was also a moment of pride to have pitched in front of Air Jordan so many admirers. “I lost the game, but the fans were happy they saw me pitching,” he said. The Mets had been playing better away from Citi Field lately, entering this series having won seven of nine on their last trip. But including Monday’s 10-3 loss, they have lost four straight on the road. The Marlins are taking to their new surroundings much better than the Mets are. San Juan also proved the perfect setting to announce that Edwin Rodriguez, who became the first Puerto Rican manager in the major leagues when he was promoted from Class AAA New Orleans on June 23, would remain in his job for the rest of the season. “Before the game started, I met with our manager, Edwin, and I told him he would be our manager until the end of the year, when we’ll re-evaluate things,” the Marlins’ owner, Jeffrey Loria, told reporters. The news was not as good for Manuel, who watched from the dugout with a pained expression as NFL Jerseys Takahashi handed back the 3-0 lead the Mets had built in the first three innings. Pitching on a cooler and far less humid evening than the night before, Takahashi allowed six earned runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out four in five and two-thirds innings. That will do nothing to solidify his place in the rotation, and could nudge the Mets to become more interested in pursuing a trade for a frontline pitcher like Cliff Lee of Seattle. Takahashi started impressively, setting down the first eight batters he faced, and did so with impeccable control. But with two outs in the third, he fell behind Robertson, who then singled, and three batters later Hanley Ramirez hit a grand slam. Two batters after that, Uggla hit a two-run home run. Had Takahashi gotten Robertson with two outs, things would have been different. “That was definitely the turning point,” he said through his interpreter, Yoichi Terada. “But I don’t want to talk about if.” INSIDE PITCH Oliver Perez will begin his minor league rehabilitation assignment Wednesday for Class A St. Lucie. Perez was placed on the disabled list with patella tendinitis in his right knee on June 5. A minor league rehabilitation assignment lasts 30 days for pitchers, after which the Mets will have to bring him back onto the major league roster, or make another Nike Air Jordan transaction with him, assuming he will not accept a demotion to the minors. ... Angel Pagan returned to the lineup after missing four games with muscle spasms in his right side. He was taken out in the eighth for precautionary reasons. ...
